In the 1936 classic Three Stooges short, Grips, Grunts, and Groans, most noted for its famous alcoholic Russian wrestler character, Bustoff, the Stooges find themselves typically ducking trouble early on and end up in a gym with sparring boxers. When gruffly asked by a wiseguy, “What do you mugs want?”, Moe and Larry both point to Curley and say, ”He’s looking for a job.” To which the mobster responds, “Okay, we need sparring partners. Go a few rounds with Kid Pinky and I’ll give you five bucks.” The black and white picture depicted on the Kid Pinky promo picture (and here on right) is a still from that short of our namesake boxing Curley. Hence, the name of the front man, as well as the origin of the boxing gloves... |

And the Restless Knights? From the 1935 short by the same name. The phrase was again reused in Knutzy Knights in 1954. When asked to identify themselves to the king, Moe answers, “Sire, we are the three Restless Knights.” To which Shemp adds, “...and our days ain’t so hot neither.” How could we resist? |
